Please Pedro,
I'm hardly looking for informations on Super8 lens contrast, definition, chromatism and distortions for my end-studies thesis. Here is the lenses I want to discribe
Schneider 6-66
Schneider 6-70
Angenieux 8-64
Angenieux 6-80
Angenieux 1,2 6-90
Angenieux 1,4 6-90
Beaulieu 6,9-55
Schneider 7-80 ( Nizo 6080 )
Nikkor 7-70 ( Nikon R10 )
Canon 6,5-65 ( canon 1014 XLS)
I shurely can't do thoses tests myself because I only own on lens on this list ( the 8-64 angenieux )
Beaulieu France & Synchro-cin? quartz couldn't get me those informations ( Beaulieu said they didn't do that kid of tests, strange ).
I red you got informations on it, where did you go it ?
I'm also looking for fixity tolerance on Super8 camera.
This thesis will naturally put on internet so as everybody could get informations on our favorite film format.
Thanks
Matt
PS : my english sucks, sorry

Hi Matt,
I fear I don?t have such detailled informations you wanna have. What I know is, that the lens characteristics like resolution and contrast can be determined when doing colimnation with the projecting method (camera used like a projector). But I doubt, that the results are absolute values, they are rather to compare one lens with another one. This way, it is possible to state that contrast and resolution of Angenieux 1.2/6-80 is far better than Schneider 6-70, measured at differnt stops and focal lengths.
I think, the informations you want the lens manufacturer should be able to provide with lens data sheets. But it might be a complicated job, as most of that lenses became "historic" collectors? items. I know, that Schneider still exists, located in Bad Kreuznach near Frankfurt. And Angenieux... well, as a French, perhaps you?ll find it out...
Another idear for your test is the following: make one or more test charts, f.e. a star chart to test resolution, a color and grey bar chart for testing contrast and a chart with concentric rectangulars for testing distortions. Work out specific testing conditions for each lens (shooting what at what stops/focal lengths/object distances) and ask other useres to shoot tests for you and send you some meters of film.
I would not mind to contribute with Schneider 6-70 and Angenieux 6-80.

For resolution & contrast testing it is possible to download a free eia1956 resolution chart here that may be printed on a suitable printer. The original size is 5,5?x11.2 inches? or approx an A4 page as far as I could see from the info there.
Check:
Site:
http://www.bealecorner.com/trv900/respat/
Chart directly:
http://www.bealecorner.com/trv900/respat/eia1956.jpg
Extract: http://www.bealecorner.com/trv900/respat/
If you want to print out your own test pattern, you can download this scan of the EIA 1956 standard test pattern as a bitmap in medium or higher resolution: 1440x1086 pixels or 3458x2608 pixels, or better yet, as a vector format (Corel, Illustrator, and EPS) EIA1956-v3.zip or in PDF format EIA1956.pdf. Thanks to George Ou for an extremely accurate vector conversion! Note, you can download a PS/EPS/PDF viewer from the Ghostscript website, or use the Adobe Acrobat Reader for PDF files. (The resolution test PDF file may look poor in your browser window, but it will be clean on a high-resolution printer.)

Hey Matt,
This might be obvious but here goes. Why don't you take a s8 cartridge and shoot it in various cameras yourself. Just find some super8 shooters in your area that are willing to lend you ten minutes with their cameras. Maybe have a super8 meeting and get everyone together with theie cameras. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for replies guys,
I already tried to find Supa8 shooters around PARIS but all the one I found are more autors than real technic lovers: they have kind of crapy cameras ( but do superb features ).
I just found a thesis director on Kodak ( that will give me kodachrome's & ektachrome charts, great ! ). With her name, I hope my requests on Angenieux,Braun & Schneider will be succesfull.
When finished, this thesis will be great & you'll shure enjoy it very much. Like the Super8 book we're waiting for but free !
Are you looking for any information I could try to find or test, please inform me.
S8 Booster, yes, I'd like to get thoses informations, thanks very much. Please send to [email protected]
